Many Feared Trapped, 16 Rescued As Building Collapses In Kano

The Kano State Fire Service has rescued 16 people after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

Many others are still feared trapped beneath the rubble following the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

The spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency received a distress call at about 4:32am and immediately deployed its emergency response team to the scene. He said the collapsed building measured about 20 by 30 feet.

Abdullahi said the rescue team recovered 16 people from the rubble, including three children who were unconscious. The children were identified as Affan Yusuf, five; Hassana Yusuf, seven; and Ummulkursum Yusuf, nine months.

He said the cause of the collapse was yet to be established, adding that an investigation was ongoing.

The fire service urged residents to observe necessary safety precautions, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent similar incidents.
