Miyetti Allah’s Group Accuses Oyo Government of Illegal Seizure of Cattle
Some members of Miyetti Allah in Ido local government area of Oyo state have accused the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority of illegal seizure of cattle.
The group, through its Chairman, Alhaji Babangida Umar, stated this during the group protest to the Dominion Broadcasting House, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
The Chairman who also has as part of the proteating team the zonal youth leader, Miyyeti Allah and some of the victims expressed sadness over the development saying their businesses has greatly suffered as a result of the development.
Alhaji Umar Babangida alleged that the team from the OYRLEA came to take their cows away consist of Amotekun, vigilante, and men of the agency.
According to Babangida, 10 cattle were taken away from Goronjo, and that 16 cattle belonging to Abubakar Mohammed of Konguo village were returned after allegedly paying a sum.
He alleged further that nine cattle were seized at Sonso, while ten cattle and five sheep have not been returned to date, adding that the huge financial loss incurred by the owners of the livestock has caused them more economic hardship.
Another spokesperson of the herdsmen, the zonal youth leader, while speaking alleged that the officers usually came during the middle of the night to perpetrate these unholy activities, claiming they were from the state government.
He expressed concerns over the alleged extortion, bias, and unlawful seizure of livestock by the OYRLEA officials.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government has repeatedly defended seizure of livestock in the state, stating that the action followed due process under the anti-open grazing law.
As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority had not issued an official response to the specific allegations raised by the protesters. The claims by the Miyetti Allah group therefore remain allegations.
