Gunmen Attack Osun APC Governorship Candidate’s Wife’s Convoy

Gunmen on Sunday evening attacked the convoy of Mrs. Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Oyebamiji, in Ede South Local Government Area of the state.

The attack reportedly occurred shortly after Mrs. Oyebamiji concluded a political engagement in Alajue Ward 2, where she met with residents and party supporters as part of preparations for the August 15 governorship election. She was accompanied on the visit by Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Alhaji Kayode Adereti.

According to reports, about 15 armed men ambushed the convoy at about 7 p.m. as it departed the venue of the political programme. Although Mrs. Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti escaped the attack unhurt, one member of the convoy sustained serious injuries.

The injured victim, identified as the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, reportedly suffered severe head injuries during the attack and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

The incident comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, raising fresh concerns over the security of political stakeholders and supporters during the campaign period.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack or announce any arrests in connection with the incident.
