Oyo Government Sets Up Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Oriire Students’ Abduction
The Oyo State Government has constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of pupils and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area, a tragic incident that occurred on May 15, 2026.
The commission is expected to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction, identify factors that led to the security breach and make recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Judicial Commission of Inquiry will be inaugurated on Friday at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ibadan.
Oyelade said the establishment of the panel is in fulfilment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to ensuring a thorough and independent investigation into the incident following the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers after 56 days in captivity.
The commissioner noted that the Judicial Commission of Inquiry would thoroughly examine the events leading to the kidnapping, assess the response of relevant authorities and make appropriate recommendations that would help improve security and safeguard schools and communities across the state.
