Oyo Police Reaffirm Commitment to Professional Policing, Responsible Use of Firearms

‎The Oyo State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to professional policing and the responsible use of firearms, stressing that weapons issued to officers are meant to protect lives and property rather than end the lives of citizens.

‎The command made this known in a statement posted on its official X handle, where it highlighted the policing philosophy consistently championed by the 23rd Inspector-General of Police, emphasizing that firearms and ammunition are procured with taxpayers’ money for the protection of the people.

‎According to the command, the Inspector-General has repeatedly reminded officers that the primary purpose of every firearm issued to a police officer is the preservation of life, the protection of citizens’ rights, and the maintenance of public peace.

‎The command noted that the right to life remains the most fundamental of all rights guaranteed under the Constitution, emphasizing that every other constitutional right can only be enjoyed by those who are alive.

‎The Oyo State Police Command added that this philosophy remains central to its efforts to build public trust, promote responsible law enforcement, and ensure that the sanctity of human life remains paramount in all policing activities across the state.
