INEC begins 2026 recruitment, outlines how to apply
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for entry-level positions across Grade Levels 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.
According to a notice published on the commission’s recruitment portal, the application window opened on Monday, July 20, 2026, and will close on Monday, July 27, 2026.
INEC said the recruitment exercise is aimed at strengthening its institutional capacity in key areas, including electoral administration, voter registration, data management and election logistics, to ensure the effective discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
The commission urged interested applicants to complete their applications online by creating an account on its recruitment portal, filling out the required forms and uploading the necessary credentials. It also emphasised that the application process is free of charge and warned applicants against submitting false information or forged documents, noting that offenders would be disqualified and could face prosecution.
Available Positions
The vacancies are grouped into three categories.
Professional Cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12)
Available positions include Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.
Applicants for these positions must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, while some roles may require a master’s degree in the relevant field. Candidates are also expected to have relevant professional certifications such as NBA, COREN, NSE, NIQS, ICAN, ANAN or CPN, at least two years of post qualification experience, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, as well as strong analytical, communication, problem solving and ICT skills.
Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 08
Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences from a recognised institution. They are also required to present an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate and demonstrate competence in data management, record keeping and the use of Microsoft Office and other ICT tools.
Executive Officer (Registration Officer) – Grade Level 07
Applicants must possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent from a recognised institution, alongside good computer knowledge, data handling, communication and organisational skills.
General Requirements
INEC said applicants must:
- Present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the Chairman or Secretary of their Local Government Area.
- Be certified physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer.
- Not be above 35 years of age at the time of application.
- Be of good character with no criminal conviction.
- Be willing to serve in any part of the country.
- Demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should visit the INEC recruitment portal and create an applicant account using their personal details, email address and National Identification Number (NIN). After verifying their email address, applicants are required to sign in, select their preferred cadre and vacancy, and upload all required documents.
The required documents include a recent passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, Local Government identification certificate and NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate where applicable.
Applicants are advised to carefully review all information before submitting their applications, as the commission stated that once a vacancy has been selected, it cannot be changed.
INEC further stressed that the recruitment exercise is free of charge and that only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the next stage of the exercise.
