England vs France: 2026 FIFA World Cup Third-Place Playoff Holds 10PM Tonight

England and France will battle for third place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup tonight after both European giants suffered semi-final defeats and narrowly missed out on a place in Sunday’s final.

France’s quest for a third World Cup title ended following a 2-0 defeat to Spain, while England’s dream of reaching the final was shattered by defending champions Argentina, who secured a 2-1 victory in the other semi-final.

Despite the disappointment, both teams have one final opportunity to end their World Cup campaign on a positive note by claiming a podium finish.

England struggled to impose themselves against Argentina, with Thomas Tuchel’s men losing control of the midfield for long periods. Although the Three Lions created openings from the flanks, captain Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham were unable to make a decisive impact in the attacking third.

France also failed to reproduce the attacking brilliance that had made them one of the tournament’s most feared sides. Spain’s disciplined defensive display neutralised Didier Deschamps’ attack, while Ousmane Dembele, Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola were unable to exploit opportunities on the counterattack.

The third-place playoff will kick off at 10:00 p.m. Nigerian time tonight (Saturday, July 18) at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, one of the host venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 64,478-capacity stadium has hosted several major international competitions in recent years, including matches at the 2024 Copa América and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

With both teams boasting world-class talent despite their semi-final heartbreaks, tonight’s encounter promises to be an entertaining contest as England and France battle for a third-place finish and a strong end to their World Cup campaign.
