In a statement issued on Tuesday, Awojoodu described the operation as a remarkable demonstration of professionalism, courage and effective inter-agency collaboration. He particularly praised the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, for leading the coordinated operation that culminated in the safe rescue of the victims from the Old Oyo National Park after weeks in captivity.

According to him, the rescue mission brought together personnel from the Office of the National Security Adviser, particularly the National Counter Terrorism Centre, the Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Army Special Forces, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters.

Awojoodu said the successful operation underscored the importance of intelligence-led operations, strategic coordination and collaboration among security agencies in tackling insecurity across the country.

He noted that the rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, who were taken by terrorists on May 15, 2026, reflected the unwavering commitment of the nation’s security institutions to protecting lives and restoring hope to affected communities.

He also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives during the rescue operation, describing them as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the nation.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of their souls and for God to grant their families the strength to bear the loss.

The media executive further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for their commitment and support throughout the rescue efforts, saying the cooperation between the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government contributed significantly to the successful outcome of the operation.

While congratulating the rescued pupils, teachers and their families, Awojoodu expressed optimism that the operation would further strengthen public confidence in the country’s security architecture.

He prayed for God’s continued protection, wisdom and strength for the nation’s security personnel as they continue to defend Nigeria against security threats.
