Just In: 18 Passengers Escape Death as 3 Vehicles Collide at Iwo Road, Ibadan
Eighteen passengers returning home from a party narrowly escaped death on Friday after the commercial bus conveying them was involved in a multiple road crash with a truck and a Nissan Micra at the busy Iwo Road area of Ibadan.
The crash triggered panic as commuters, motorists and residents rushed to the scene to assist the occupants of the affected vehicles.
A video obtained by NewsRegister showed the truck, the 18 passenger commercial bus and the Nissan Micra involved in the collision, with the impact leaving the vehicles badly damaged and obstructing part of the roadway.
The footage captured a dramatic moment as the passengers, who were said to be returning from a party, escaped from the bus through the rear boot after the normal exit became inaccessible.
Good Samaritans and other road users quickly assisted the passengers to safety as they emerged from the vehicle one after another.
The incident temporarily disrupted traffic along the ever-busy Iwo Road corridor, forcing motorists to slow down while emergency assistance was being rendered.
Although the extent of injuries could not be immediately confirmed, all 18 passengers aboard the bus were successfully evacuated.
As of the time of filing this report, the relevant emergency and traffic management agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
The cause of the crash also remained unknown, as there was no official account explaining how the three vehicles became involved in the collision.
The incident underscores the importance of caution on the roads, particularly along busy highways and intersections, where crashes can have devastating consequences.
