Two Killed, Two Escape as Truck, Bus Collide in Ogun
Two people have been confirmed dead, while two others escaped unhurt in a road crash that occurred at Ogere Junction along the Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The fatal accident occurred at about 5:10 a.m. on Thursday and involved a white Mack truck with registration number ABC 660 XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with no registration number.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, on Thursday.
According to Odunsi, four adult males were involved in the crash, with two losing their lives while the remaining two escaped without injuries.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that route violation and speeding were the likely causes of the crash.
“The impact of the collision led to the Peugeot J5 bus catching fire, with its front section completely burnt,” he said.
Odunsi added that FRSC rescue personnel arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced traffic control to prevent further accidents.
He explained that traffic was diverted to the alternative carriageway while officials cleared the wreckage to restore the free flow of vehicles.
The FRSC spokesperson disclosed that the remains of the deceased were evacuated by officers of the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at a nearby mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations.
He warned drivers against speeding and route violations, particularly during periods of poor visibility and on wet roads, noting that reckless driving remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes across the country.
Ogunjobi reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment campaigns and prompt rescue operations, urging motorists to maintain safe speeds and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
The latest crash comes days after the FRSC disclosed that 161 people lost their lives in 415 road crashes across Ogun State between January and May 2026, while 1,007 others sustained varying degrees of injuries during the same period.
