Former Kano Anti-Graft Boss Alleges Kwankwaso Diverted Billions for Personal Expenses

A former Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, has alleged that former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, diverted billions of naira from the state treasury for personal expenses.

Muhyi made the allegations in a video circulated on social media, which he later confirmed to journalists as having been released by him.

According to him, Kwankwaso allegedly received N1 billion in December 2023 for the construction of a personal residence. However, he did not specify whether the house in question is the one currently occupied by the former governor.

The former anti-corruption chief further alleged that Kwankwaso received N525 million for the construction of an office during the same period. He also claimed that the former governor collected N1.240 billion and an additional N400 million for the purchase of official vehicles.

Muhyi also alleged that in June 2024, Kwankwaso received N100.8 million for medical expenses and N510.213 million for holiday-related expenses.

The former anti-graft boss, who expressed concern over the alleged transactions, stated that there were additional revelations he intended to make regarding the management of public funds during the former governor’s tenure.

He challenged Kwankwaso to seek legal redress if the allegations were false, insisting that he was prepared to defend his claims in court.

“I challenge him to take me to court if what I have said about the alleged diversion of Kano State funds is untrue,” Muhyi said.

Reacting to the allegations, the spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr. Habibu Muhammad Sale Mailemo, confirmed awareness of the matter and said the group was reviewing the claims.

“We are studying the allegations and will respond appropriately. That response may include legal action against Barrister Muhyi,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, Kwankwaso had not personally responded to the allegations.
