Boko Haram Terrorists Set Schools Ablaze in Chibok Community
Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have reportedly razed several educational facilities, including primary and secondary schools, in Kautikari village, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which occurred on Saturday evening, has heightened concerns over the persistent insecurity facing communities in the state, particularly in areas previously targeted by insurgents.
According to security sources, the armed assailants stormed the community at about 7 p.m. and set the schools on fire before fleeing the area.
Although no casualties were recorded during the incident, residents reportedly fled into nearby bushes to escape the attackers and seek safety.
The latest assault comes just weeks after pupils of Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area were abducted, with their whereabouts remaining unknown nearly a month after the incident.
A resident of Kautikari disclosed that while the community had come under attack by insurgents in the past, previous invasions did not result in the destruction of public infrastructure or private property.
“This is not the first time they are attacking our community, but unlike previous incidents, they have now destroyed schools and caused significant damage,” the source said.
Kautikari, a community in Chibok LGA, has suffered repeated attacks over the years as insurgent groups continue to target vulnerable communities in parts of Borno State.
As of the time of filing this report, the Borno State Government and security authorities had yet to issue an official statement confirming the attack.
The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in the North-East despite sustained military operations against Boko Haram and its splinter faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
