Amaechi Accepts Atiku’s Offer to Become ADC Running Mate

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly selected former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The development was confirmed on Saturday by the immediate past ADC chairman in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, who disclosed that Amaechi had accepted the vice-presidential nomination.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Sampson gave a brief response when asked whether the former minister had agreed to serve as Atiku’s running mate.

“Yes,” he said.

Amaechi had contested the ADC presidential primary election but was defeated by Atiku, who emerged as the party’s flagbearer.

Before the primary election, the former Rivers State governor had repeatedly stated that he did not purchase the party’s presidential nomination form with the intention of later accepting a vice-presidential position.

Following the primary, Amaechi also expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the contest. Some aggrieved party members alleged that the election was manipulated in favour of Atiku, claims that generated controversy within the party.

Despite the disagreements that trailed the primary election, the latest development suggests that both leaders may have resolved their differences ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Atiku-Amaechi ticket is expected to strengthen the ADC’s campaign efforts as the opposition party seeks to mount a formidable challenge in the next presidential race.

Neither Atiku nor Amaechi had officially issued a public statement on the reported vice-presidential nomination as of the time of filing this report.
