Unauthorised incursion of Cameroonian military in Cross River under control – Nigerian Army
The Nigerian Army has assured residents of Cross River State that the recent unauthorised entry of personnel from the Cameroonian Armed Forces into Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area is under control.
The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan.
According to the statement, troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Danare responded promptly after receiving reports of the presence of foreign military personnel within Nigerian territory on June 9, 2026.
The Army said the appropriate authorities of the Cameroonian Armed Forces were immediately contacted, leading to the withdrawal of the troops in line with established border protocols.
“Consequently, the situation was swiftly contained without any further escalation,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a dispute over the collection of levies on farmland located between Danare Community in Nigeria and Dadi Community in Cameroon.
To strengthen existing diplomatic and military cooperation and prevent a recurrence, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division has directed the Commander of 13 Brigade to engage with his Cameroonian counterpart for further discussions on the matter.
According to the Army, the engagement is expected to improve border coordination, clarify operational procedures along the international boundary and prevent future incidents.
“This initiative aims to bolster border coordination, clarify operational procedures along the boundary, and avert future incidents,” the statement added.
The 82 Division reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and ensuring the security of communities located along the country’s borders within its area of responsibility.
Residents of Danare and neighbouring communities were assured that the situation remains stable and fully under control.
“Residents of Danare and surrounding areas are assured that the situation is stable and entirely under control. Troops remain alert and continue to oversee border activities,” the Army stated.
The Army further urged members of the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension.
It reiterated that security personnel remain vigilant and committed to maintaining peace and security in the border communities.
