Gunmen Abduct Local Government Worker, Filling Station Attendant in Ondo

Suspected gunmen have abducted a staff member of Akure North Local Government Area, identified as Samson Gbenga Sanni, in Ondo State.

Sanni, popularly known as “Timber,” was reportedly kidnapped at about 7:10 p.m. on Sunday at his residence in the Agbelere area of Ilu-Abo community in Akure North LGA.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim had just returned from work when three armed men, who had allegedly laid ambush in a nearby bush, stormed his residence and whisked him away. The abduction was carried out in the presence of his wife and two children.

The incident has heightened concerns over the growing spate of kidnappings and insecurity in parts of the state.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, said security operatives and tactical teams had been deployed to the area to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and apprehend those behind the crime.

In a separate incident, suspected gunmen also abducted a female filling station attendant in the Emure-Ile area of Owo Local Government Area.

Sources disclosed that the victim was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday and taken to an unknown destination by her captors.

Police authorities have yet to provide further details on the second abduction as investigations continue.

The twin incidents have sparked fresh concerns among residents over security challenges in parts of Ondo State, with calls for intensified efforts by security agencies to curb the rising wave of kidnappings.
