Police, Amotekun Arrest Suspected Cultist, Recover Firearm in Efon Raid

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, in collaboration with personnel of the Amotekun Corps, have arrested a suspected cultist and recovered a locally made firearm during an intelligence-led operation in Efon Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit alongside Amotekun personnel in the Ita Baale area of Ogbori, Efon, following credible intelligence.

During the raid, a 21-year-old suspect identified as Salami Obisesan was apprehended, while a cut-to-size locally made firearm was recovered from his possession.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly obtained the firearm from a friend currently serving a prison sentence at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

The police further stated that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Neo Black Movement, popularly known as Black Axe.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and identify other persons who may be connected to the case.

The recovered firearm has been taken into custody as an exhibit.

The command reiterated its commitment to tackling cultism, illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities across the state.

It also appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely, credible and actionable information that could aid crime prevention, detection and the arrest of criminal elements.

According to the police, public cooperation remains crucial to maintaining peace, safety and security in communities across Oyo State.
