Armed Robbers Invade Adamawa Poly Female Hostel, Cart Away Phones, Valuables
Armed robbers wielding guns, knives, and cutlasses have attacked the female hostel at the Numan Campus of Adamawa State Polytechnic, dispossessing students of mobile phones and other valuables during a late-night operation.
Witnesses said the attackers stormed the hostel in the early hours of Wednesday, May 27, 2026, while Muslim faithful were preparing for the Sallah celebration. The robbers reportedly carted away at least 15 mobile phones and several personal belongings belonging to the students.
Some students who resisted attempts by the attackers to seize their phones were reportedly injured during the incident, while one student allegedly fainted due to the trauma and panic caused by the attack.
The affected students accused the school management of negligence and poor security, lamenting what they described as inadequate protection within the campus environment.
“We were left helpless during the attack. There was no immediate security response while the robbers operated freely within the hostel,” one of the students reportedly said.
The Numan Campus is regarded as the second-largest campus of Adamawa State Polytechnic after the institution’s main campus located in Jimeta, Yola.
Confirming the incident, the institution’s Information Officer, Mr. Albert Matila, said the management was aware of the attack and would visit the affected hostel to assess the situation and evaluate the security concerns raised by students.
He assured that the institution would take necessary steps aimed at preventing a recurrence and improving safety measures around the campus.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the security of students in tertiary institutions, particularly those residing in hostels, as calls grow for stronger surveillance and improved protection within school environments.
