2026 Hajj: NAHCON Announces Feeding Cost Refund to Pilgrims After Renegotiated Food Costs in Madinah, Pledges Improved Welfare
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (National Hajj Commission of Nigeria) has announced a refund to Nigerian pilgrims following savings from renegotiated feeding arrangements in Madinah, describing the move as a direct benefit aimed at improving welfare and transparency in the 2026 Hajj operations.
The Commission said the refund represents savings achieved after it successfully renegotiated food supply and feeding costs in Madinah, stressing that the funds will be returned directly to pilgrims.
It explained that the decision reflects its commitment to accountability and ensuring that cost reductions in key services are passed on to pilgrims rather than absorbed administratively.
The announcement was contained in a message to Nigerian pilgrims on the Day of Arafat by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, a period regarded as the spiritual peak of the Hajj pilgrimage.
In the message, NAHCON extended prayers and greetings to pilgrims gathered on Mount Arafat, describing the occasion as one of mercy, forgiveness, humility, sacrifice, patience, and total submission to Almighty Allah. Pilgrims were urged to reflect deeply on the lessons of the day and renew their commitment to righteousness.
“History teaches valuable lessons, and when we fail to learn from them, we risk repeating the same hardships. But when we reflect on yesterday with wisdom, we are better prepared to build a stronger and more rewarding tomorrow,” the statement read.
Beyond the refund, NAHCON said it is reviewing overall Hajj operations to improve efficiency and service delivery, noting progress in airlift coordination compared to previous years while acknowledging that further improvements remain necessary.
The Commission added that a comprehensive review of operational challenges observed during the 2026 Hajj exercise will be undertaken to strengthen supervision and enhance pilgrim welfare.
It reiterated its commitment to its founding mandate of improving Hajj administration and ensuring better experiences for Nigerian pilgrims.
NAHCON also expressed appreciation to stakeholders, partners, and pilgrims for their cooperation, while acknowledging the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in strengthening Hajj operations and policy direction.
The Commission assured pilgrims of safe and seamless arrangements for their return to Nigeria and prayed for the acceptance of their worship and a successful completion of the pilgrimage.
