2026 World Hypertension Day: Expert Calls For Regular Check-up, Seeks Collective Efforts to Control Disease
A medical expert and Non-Communicable Disease Officer at the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Adedeji Christianah, has emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups as part of efforts to reduce the growing burden and complications associated with hypertension.
Mrs. Adedeji made the call during a medical outreach organized by Speedy Health on the Wheels Foundation in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Health to commemorate the 2026 World Hypertension Day.
The outreach held on Saturday ,at Isokan Oloje, Irede Estate Landlords and Landladies Association, Soka, Ibadan, had as its theme: “Controlling Hypertension Together: Check Your Blood Pressure Regularly, Defeat the Silent Killer.”
She stressed that early detection and proper management remain critical in preventing severe health complications linked to high blood pressure.
The medical expert urged community members to adopt healthy lifestyles, monitor their blood pressure regularly and seek prompt medical attention when necessary.
According to her, hypertension remains one of the leading causes of cardiovascular diseases, stroke, kidney failure and sudden death, noting that many people living with the condition are unaware of their status due to inadequate routine medical examinations.
Mrs. Adedeji called on landlords, landladies, stakeholders, community eaaders, religious leaders and individuals to work collectively towards reducing the prevalence of hypertension in society.
She also advised residents to cultivate habits such as regular exercise, healthy dieting, reduced salt intake, avoidance of tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption as practical measures to prevent and control hypertension.
Mrs. Adedeji commended Speedy Health on the Wheels Foundation for supporting the state government in achieving the objectives of the outreach programme.
In his remarks ,the Chief Executive Officer,the Speedy Health on the Wheels Foundation,
Mr. Adeshina Adebayo was represented by Mrs Moboluwaduro Adeoye,said that the objective of the NGO which is helping people living with hypertension and diabetes by doing free check up for them and he stated that the organization explores all to cultivate a healthy lifestyle.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Landlords and Landladies Association, Mr. Bamiji Olaleye, and Mrs. Buhari Selimot appreciated the organizers, noting that the community had never benefited from such a programme before.
They appealed to the organizers to make the programme a continuous exercise.
The medical outreach featured health education, free Blood Sugar Tests, blood pressure checks and other health services for residents of the Community
Also,the people with elevated blood pressure and high blood glucose were referred to Maje PHC for management.
The catchment area for the environment was Oluyole LGA,Oyo State.
