How Can Alli Poll 578,143 Votes When APC Membership Is Not Up to 500,000? — Adelabu
Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has questioned the credibility of the Oyo State governorship primary conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC), asking how Senator Sharafadeen Alli could allegedly secure 578,143 votes when the party’s membership in the state is far below 500,000.
Adelabu made the assertion in a statement issued on Friday through his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro.
The former minister, who resigned from the Federal Executive Council to contest the APC governorship primary, lost the ticket to Senator Alli amid allegations that the exercise was manipulated.
Reacting to the outcome, Adelabu described reports that Alli polled 578,143 votes as inaccurate and misleading.
According to him, the total number of registered APC members in Oyo State stands at 153,640, making the announced figures questionable.
He urged party members and supporters to remain calm and await the official declaration of the results.
Adelabu maintained that the turnout during the primary election showed that he enjoys significant grassroots support across the state.
“Those in charge of the results need to be careful and not allow themselves to be used by anyone to truncate or alter the results because it is already clear to us from what we are collating from each ward,” the statement read.
The former minister further warned against any attempt to manipulate the final outcome of the primary election, insisting that the integrity of the process must be protected.
The APC governorship primary in Oyo State has continued to generate reactions among party stakeholders following the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
