2027 Presidency: Maharaj Ji Asks Atiku to Stay Out of Race, Says South Should Complete Eight-Year Tenure

Founder of the One Love Family and spiritual leader, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has cautioned former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar against contesting the 2027 presidential election, insisting that the South must be allowed to complete what he described as its constitutionally and morally justified eight-year tenure in office.

In a statement dated May 21, 2026, Maharaj Ji argued that any attempt by Atiku or other northern politicians to enter the race would undermine the prevailing North–South political understanding in the country.

He said the same patience and support the North enjoyed during the eight-year administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari should also be extended to the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.

“The South must be allowed to complete its eight-year duration in Aso Rock like the North did in respect of the immediate past Buhari administration,” he stated.

Maharaj Ji maintained that northern political leaders should respect the rotational understanding that has shaped Nigeria’s recent political arrangements.

He also urged the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) and other influential stakeholders to prevail on Atiku Abubakar and other northern aspirants to withdraw from the 2027 race, saying this would help preserve national unity and political stability.

The spiritual leader described the silence of northern political elites over Atiku’s alleged ambition as dangerous, warning that it could heighten political tension across the country.

He further accused some northern elites of contributing to Nigeria’s prolonged political and economic challenges, while calling on Nigerians with progressive views to unite for national renewal.

Maharaj Ji also criticised Atiku’s continued presidential ambition, arguing that the former vice president had already benefited significantly from public service and should consider retiring from active politics.

He warned that any move capable of disrupting the current political balance could trigger avoidable unrest ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reiterating his position, he stressed fairness, justice, and adherence to democratic principles, adding that Nigeria’s unity would be better preserved if political agreements and power-sharing understandings were respected across regions.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain committed to peace, constitutional governance, and national cohesion as preparations for the next general election continue.
