Oyo Teachers Protest at TESCOM Office Over Kidnapping of Students, Killings of Colleagues By Terrorists
Teachers on Monday shut down classroom activities in Ogbomoso and staged a peaceful protest to the TESCOM office in the town over the recent kidnapping of students, pupils and killings involving school teachers.
The protesters marched with placards bearing various inscriptions, calling on governments at all levels to intensify efforts toward securing the release of those currently held captive by kidnappers.
The demonstration followed the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, which has continued to generate concern among education stakeholders and residents across the state.
The teachers also demanded improved security around schools and safer learning environments for both staff and students.
Recall that the Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, while Speaking during a press briefing, described the situation as “very difficult and challenging,” confirming that seven teachers were among those kidnapped during the attack on schools in the area.
Makinde also disclosed that the government had received a video allegedly showing that one of the abducted teachers had been killed by the kidnappers, a development he said underscores the urgency and sensitivity of ongoing rescue operations.
The governor assured residents that the state government is fully deploying all available security logistics while also working with community leaders, religious bodies, and security agencies to secure the safe return of the victims.
