Osun Government Accuses A Security Agency of Operating Alleged Killer Squad Ahead Governorship Election
The Osun State Government and the leadership of the Accord Party have raised concerns over what they described as reports of a planned security operation allegedly targeting some party leaders and government officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday via the verified X handle of the Osun State Government and reposted by Governor Ademola Adeleke, the government alleged that a security agency had assembled a special squad for operations involving selected political figures in the state.
The statement claimed that the planned operation could involve selective arrests of some Accord Party leaders and raised concerns over the neutrality and intent of the exercise.
According to the government, there were allegations that the team had held meetings with opposition political figures and received logistical support for its proposed activities. However, no official confirmation of the claims was provided.
The statement further alleged that the operation was being planned without the knowledge of the Osun State Commissioner of Police.
While calling for calm, the state government urged security agencies to conduct all operations professionally and within the bounds of the law.
The government appealed to President Bola Tinubu, relevant authorities, and the diplomatic community to closely monitor political and security developments in Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
It also called on the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that security personnel remain neutral and are not drawn into partisan political activities.
The Osun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to peace and lawful democratic engagement, urging residents to remain vigilant and peaceful as political activities intensify across the state.

Oluomo Kolapo Alimi
