‎Governor Makinde, CP Abimbola Inaugurate Police Violent Crime Response Unit in Oyo After Orire Abduction Incident


‎Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State, describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening security and tackling rising cases of kidnapping and violent crimes.

‎Speaking during the launch of the unit’s headquarters in Ibadan, governor Makinde said the VCRU is the first specialised tactical unit of its kind in the South-West.

‎He noted that the recent abduction incident in Orire Local Government underscored the need for proactive and rapid security response across the state.

‎The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to support security agencies through logistics, intelligence sharing and surveillance infrastructure to further tackle Security Challenges in the state.

‎He also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.

‎In his remarks, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Nigeria Police Force is an intelligence-driven and professionally trained unit established to respond swiftly to violent crimes while operating with strict respect for human rights and accountability.
