Governor Makinde, CP Abimbola Inaugurate Police Violent Crime Response Unit in Oyo After Orire Abduction Incident
Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State, describing the initiative as a major step towards strengthening security and tackling rising cases of kidnapping and violent crimes.
Speaking during the launch of the unit’s headquarters in Ibadan, governor Makinde said the VCRU is the first specialised tactical unit of its kind in the South-West.
He noted that the recent abduction incident in Orire Local Government underscored the need for proactive and rapid security response across the state.
The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to support security agencies through logistics, intelligence sharing and surveillance infrastructure to further tackle Security Challenges in the state.
He also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
In his remarks, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, said the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Nigeria Police Force is an intelligence-driven and professionally trained unit established to respond swiftly to violent crimes while operating with strict respect for human rights and accountability.
