Residents Raise Alarm Over Rising Rate of Illegal Migration Among Nigerians


‎Illegal migration among Nigerians in search of better opportunities abroad continues to generate concern among residents, as economic hardship and unemployment push many citizens to seek greener pastures outside the country.

‎Despite repeated warnings about the dangers involved, many young people still embark on risky journeys through unsafe and irregular routes.

‎However, stakeholders have continued to express worries over the increasing number of Nigerians falling victim to human trafficking, kidnapping, exploitation, and even death while attempting to migrate illegally.

‎Findings show that many young Nigerians continue to travel through unsafe and irregular routes in search of better living conditions, employment, and economic stability abroad.

‎Speaking with Cross-Section of residents in Ibadan, many attributed the situation to unemployment, economic hardship, and the desire for a better future.

‎Others expressed concern that many migrants are often unaware of the dangers involved, including human trafficking, kidnapping, and the possible loss of lives during the journey.

‎Residents are therefore calling on the government to create more employment opportunities, improve living conditions, and intensify awareness campaigns on the dangers associated with illegal migration.
