Parts of Ibadan to Experience Power Outage as TCN Shuts Down Transformer for Maintenance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power outage in parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, due to planned maintenance on a major transformer.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, and signed by its General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company disclosed that a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Ayede Transmission Substation would be shut down for routine preventive maintenance. The exercise is scheduled to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

According to TCN, the maintenance is necessary to ensure the facility continues to operate efficiently and reliably. Engineers will carry out essential checks and servicing during the period.

As a result of the shutdown, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in the Express, Industrial, and Oluyole areas within the stated timeframe.

TCN apologised to residents and businesses in the affected communities for the inconvenience, assuring that the maintenance is part of efforts to improve power infrastructure and service delivery.
