Just In: Bala Mohammed Dumps PDP to Pursue Senate Bid, Says Makinde, Turaki & Others Will  Remain to Sort Things Out

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has declared his intention to contest the Bauchi South senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, while confirming that he is moving out of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mohammed made the disclosure in an interview with BBC Hausa, following escalating tensions within the party and a Supreme Court judgment that nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan in November 2025.

The governor said consultations on his political future were nearing conclusion and hinted that his decision to exit the PDP is already in motion.

“With only a few days left, we are working to conclude discussions on where to move,” he said.

He added that although he is leaving the party, PDP leaders such as Seyi Makinde, Turaki, and others would be left to handle and resolve the internal crisis.

Mohammed ruled out any presidential ambition, insisting that his focus is on the Senate seat, which he said was driven by strong appeals from constituents in Bauchi South.

He also confirmed ongoing consultations with political figures including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, saying the current political climate is forcing realignments across parties.

On the Supreme Court ruling, he noted that it did not amount to a total victory for any faction, as both sides of the PDP leadership structure were affected by the judgment.

Mohammed added that the PDP Board of Trustees is expected to take a central role in managing the party’s affairs pending the emergence of an interim leadership.
