OAU 400-Level Medical Student Dies Moments Before Final Examination

Adewole Emmanuel, a 400-level medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University, has died after reportedly collapsing shortly before his final session examination.

Emmanuel’s death was announced on Thursday in a statement dated April 22, 2026, by the Ife University Medical Students Association.

The association described the late student as a valued member of the medical community and a promising future doctor whose life was cut short unexpectedly.

“Under the cover of dark clouds, we write to you with the heaviest of hearts to inform you of the passing of one of our own, an integral part of the association and a solid pillar of his class,” the statement read.

IFUMSA further described Emmanuel as a colleague, friend, roommate, and dedicated Part 4 medical student with an undeniably bright future.

“This incident is not only sad, but deeply painful, as we have lost a rising star and a cherished member of the IFUMSA family,” the statement added.

The association appealed to the public to avoid speculation and respect the privacy of the bereaved family during the difficult period.

A senior member of the association, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to comment publicly, said Emmanuel collapsed on Wednesday while students were waiting to sit for their final examination.

According to the source, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

“He had not been sick and there was no known underlying medical condition. We were preparing for our final exam when he suddenly collapsed and could not be resuscitated,” the source said.

The university community has since been thrown into mourning following the tragic incident.
