President Tinubu Confirms Death of Army General in Borno Terrorists’ Attack, Mourns Fallen Soldiers
President Bola Tinubu has confirmed the death of Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah following a terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The attack, carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, targeted the camp of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI in the early hours of Thursday, leaving an unspecified number of military personnel dead.
According to Michael Onoja, director of defence media operations at the Defence Headquarters, the coordinated assault occurred at about 12:30 a.m.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the armed forces and the families of the fallen soldiers.
Tinubu praised the courage and resilience of the troops, noting that they fought bravely to repel the attackers and prevent them from advancing into surrounding communities.
“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. This counterattack is a sign of desperation,” he said.
He paid tribute to the slain officers and soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Braimah, describing their sacrifice as a profound loss to the nation.
“Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever,” the president added.
Tinubu also urged Nigerians and the media to support the military’s efforts in combating insurgency and banditry, warning against narratives that could undermine troop morale.
Describing the fallen soldiers as “unforgettable and irreplaceable,” the president assured that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of military personnel and provide the necessary support to strengthen ongoing operations.
He further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming his commitment to restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
