Ogun 2027: Iyabo Obasanjo Meets President Tinubu in Lagos
Daughter of former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo and governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Iyabo Obasanjo, has formally briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on her ambition to contest the state’s top office.
During a private meeting held at the President’s Lagos residence, Obasanjo outlined her vision and development plans for Ogun State. Sources familiar with the discussion said the meeting focused primarily on her intention to run for governor in the 2027 elections.
She highlighted key priorities in governance, development, and public service, presenting her roadmap for the state if elected.
Obasanjo also reflected on her longstanding relationship with President Tinubu, describing it as one built on years of political engagement and mutual respect. According to her, this relationship has significantly shaped her political journey and leadership approach.
Speaking on the meeting, she said:
“On Monday in Lagos, I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Our conversation was insightful and forward-looking, focusing on leadership, governance, and the ongoing development of our nation and Ogun State.”
During the engagement, the former commissioner reaffirmed her loyalty to the APC and pledged to mobilise support for President Tinubu ahead of the next general election.
Political observers view the meeting as part of ongoing consultations and strategic alignments ahead of future electoral contests in Ogun State and across the country.
