ADC, PDP Factions Call for Clean Democratic Space After Abuja Solidarity Meeting __ Gov. Makinde Signals Something Big Coming With Smiles

Factional leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday called for a clean and more democratic political environment in Nigeria following a closed-door solidarity meeting in Abuja.

The meeting, which brought together leaders from both opposition blocs, was described as a solidarity engagement amid ongoing political tensions, internal party disputes, and recent developments in the political space.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde said the delegation visited the ADC leadership to express solidarity and support efforts aimed at strengthening democratic practice in the country.

“We came here to visit the leadership of ADC. We are on a solidarity visit,” Makinde said.

“We’ve seen what has been happening within the political space, the talks, and the protests today. So we came to show solidarity and to commit to a clean, democratic space in our country,” he added.

Journalists were not allowed to ask further questions after the brief statement, with organisers indicating that the engagement was still part of ongoing consultations.

During a brief exchange, when asked whether the solidarity visit implied joining forces with the ADC, Makinde responded, “solidarity,” before the session was brought to a close.

The meeting was held behind closed doors and involved factional leaders of both the ADC and PDP, amid ongoing internal divisions within the two parties.

No formal announcement of a merger, alliance, or electoral pact was made at the end of the meeting.
