Bandits Attempt Friendly Match With Army GOC Convoy in Zamfara, Military Operatives Buried Them Alive With Bullets

Troops have reportedly killed several bandits following an attack on the convoy of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, one soldier also lost his life during the encounter.

The incident was said to have occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Monday as the GOC was returning from an operational visit to troops stationed at Kulchin Kalgo and the Forward Operating Base in Danjibga.

“On reaching Maitashi village, the convoy reportedly came into contact with fleeing terrorists, leading to an exchange of fire,” the report stated.

During the engagement, troops successfully neutralised several of the assailants and recovered weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles.

“However, one soldier sustained gunshot wounds and was evacuated to Keta Healthcare Centre, where he was later confirmed dead,” the report added.

Troops subsequently cleared the area, allowing the convoy to continue its journey to Gusau. Military operations in the area are said to be ongoing.
