Africa Centres for Disease Control Appoints Former VP, Osinbajo as Senior Strategic Adviser
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has appointed Yemi Osinbajo as senior strategic adviser to its director-general, Jean Kaseya.
The appointment was announced in a statement on Monday, highlighting Osinbajo’s role in supporting the agency’s leadership at a critical time for Africa’s health sector.
According to the agency, the appointment comes as it advances the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty (AHSS) agenda, which focuses on strengthening the continent’s voice in global health, boosting domestic financing, promoting local manufacturing of health commodities, and building resilient systems for pandemic preparedness and response.
Kaseya described Osinbajo as a seasoned leader with extensive experience across governance, finance, law, and diplomacy.
He noted that the former vice-president’s expertise would be instrumental in driving Africa’s ambition to take greater control of its health future and policy direction.
In his new role, Osinbajo will advise on key areas including Africa’s position in global health reforms, sustainable health financing, strategic partnerships, and policy leadership within the Africa CDC and the African Union framework.
Osinbajo served as Nigeria’s vice-president from 2015 to 2023, where he played significant roles in economic reforms, ease-of-doing-business initiatives, and social investment programmes.
He also previously served as attorney-general and commissioner for justice in Lagos State, bringing decades of public service experience to his new continental role.
