UNIJOS Suspends Exams Over Security Concerns

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) in Plateau State has suspended all examinations scheduled for Monday and Tuesday due to security concerns.

In a statement released on Monday, Emmanuel Madugu, the university’s Deputy Registrar and Information and Public Relations Officer, said the decision followed a deadly attack on Sunday in Angwan Rukuba, a community in Jos North Local Government Area.

The attack reportedly claimed several lives and has created tension in the area, which is home to many university staff and students.

According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor directed that all examinations scheduled for March 30 and 31, 2026, be postponed. New dates will be announced later.

Madugu said the Vice-Chancellor advised members of the university community to remain vigilant and be cautious in their movements, both on and off campus.

He also urged students and staff to avoid going out very early in the morning and to report any threat to public peace to the University Security Division.

The statement added that the university management is working with security agencies and monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in the affected local government area following the attack.
