After Presidential Villa, Federal Government to Deploy $5 Million Solar Power Project
The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy a $5 million solar power project in partnership with the Yobe State Government and the World Bank, aimed at improving electricity supply in key health and education institutions across the state.
The initiative will involve the installation of rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems in six strategic institutions, with the goal of enhancing service delivery and promoting sustainable development.
The project is expected to address persistent power challenges while reducing dependence on diesel-powered generators.
Four major healthcare facilities have been selected to benefit from the intervention: Specialist Hospital Potiskum, Specialist Hospital Geidam, Specialist Hospital Buni Yadi, and General Hospital Nguru. Improved and reliable electricity in these facilities is anticipated to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure better patient outcomes.
In the education sector, Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua, and Yobe State University, Damaturu, will also benefit from the solar installations.
The project is expected to provide a more stable learning environment, supporting academic activities and research.
Officials say the initiative will not only reduce power outages and operational costs but also contribute to environmental sustainability.
By embracing renewable energy solutions, the Federal Government aims to position Yobe State as a model for clean energy adoption in Nigeria.
The project reflects ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to invest in critical infrastructure that supports essential services and drives sustainable development nationwide.
