NSCDC Approves Body Cameras for Personnel Nationwide to Boost Security Response
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has begun the nationwide deployment of drones, body cameras, and other advanced equipment to strengthen security operations and protect critical infrastructure.
Commandant-General Audi Abubakar approved the rollout, which was announced at the corps’ annual strategic meeting at its headquarters in Abuja. Commanders from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory attended the meeting.
The equipment distributed includes drones, GPS tracking devices, and situation room connectivity kits for real-time coordination. Officers also received bulletproof vests, helmets, combat boots, night-vision goggles, body cameras, pen recorders, and operational backpacks fitted with solar chargers and mini tablets.
Abubakar said the deployment is part of efforts to improve intelligence gathering and enhance response to security threats, including banditry, illegal mining, and logging.
He said the tools would enable faster and more coordinated operations through centralised monitoring systems.
Abubakar, whose tenure was recently renewed by President Bola Tinubu, said ongoing reforms have addressed welfare concerns such as salary arrears and delayed promotions, boosting personnel morale.
He warned officers against misusing the equipment, stressing that it must be used strictly for official duties, with violations attracting sanctions.
The NSCDC also cited recent operations, including the destruction of more than 400 illegal refineries and arrests of suspected smugglers and illegal miners.
Abubakar added that the new equipment would support specialised units, including Agro Rangers, and improve coordination through enhanced intelligence sharing and inter-agency collaboration.
