Many Feared Dead as Explosion Rocks Kwara Community
A suspected bomb explosion has struck Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, with several casualties feared.
According to a source who spoke with TheCable, a driver identified as Zuberu was among those affected.
The source also revealed that a woman sustained injuries and has been transported to Ilorin for medical treatment on the directive of the Kaiama LGA chairman.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, were unsuccessful.
No group has officially claimed responsibility for the explosion. However, residents suspect that the device may have been an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated by suspected Boko Haram members.
The incident comes amid rising security concerns in the area. Last month, at least 75 residents were reportedly killed and several homes destroyed when suspected terrorists attacked Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in the same LGA.
Following that attack, President Bola Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to strengthen security and curb further violence in the region.
