Gunmen Enter CRIN in Ibadan, Kidnap Four Persons; Police Rescue One, Search for Others

 

Security operatives have launched an intensive operation following a suspected bandits attack at the headquarters of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, CRIN in Ibadan.

The attack occurred at the institute’s nursery section, where armed assailants stormed the area and targeted people on the premises.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of staff and visitors.

Eyewitnesses said several individuals were affected, prompting an urgent response from security agencies.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, said four persons were abducted during the attack.

He added that one of the victims, the Chairman of cocoa farmers in the state, has been rescued, and his vehicle recovered.

The police spokesperson also said the victim is safe and currently being attended to by authorities.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Anti Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to support officers from the Idi Ayunre Division in an ongoing bush combing operation to rescue the remaining victims and arrest those responsible.

Security has been strengthened around the institute and nearby communities as the search continues.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and share any useful information that could assist the operation.
