Oyo Government to Settle Waste Management Consultants’ Payments Within 48 Hours

The Oyo State Government has assured waste management consultants operating across the state that payments owed for waste evacuation services from January 23 to date will be settled within the next 48 hours.

The assurance was given during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held between the State Government and waste management consultants at the conference hall of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts by the government to strengthen waste management systems and reposition Oyo State as a leader in environmental sustainability in Nigeria, particularly in the waste management sector.

The engagement provided a platform for government officials and key waste management operators to discuss existing challenges and explore ways to improve service delivery across the state.

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Engineer (Dr.) Ademola Aderinto, reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to restoring Oyo State to its former status as the Pacesetter in effective waste management and environmental protection.

He emphasized that the continued engagement of waste management consultants would be strictly based on performance evaluation, adherence to operational guidelines, and the number of complaints received from members of the public.

According to the Commissioner, the renewal of consultants’ contracts, which is due at the end of the month, will depend on measurable performance indicators, including efficiency in service delivery and the number of unresolved complaints against each consultant.

Aderinto further assured the consultants that the State Government remains committed to meeting its financial obligations. He disclosed that payments owed for waste evacuation services from January 23 till date would be settled within 48 hours, while efforts are ongoing to resolve the backlog of payments for November and December.

He noted that the government recognizes the critical role played by waste management consultants in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, urging them to intensify their efforts to ensure efficient waste evacuation across the state.

The meeting ended with renewed commitments from both the government and the consultants to work collaboratively toward achieving a cleaner and healthier environment for residents of Oyo State.
