Oyo Government Boosts Food Production with Discounted Tractors, Urges Farmers to Take Advantage
Farmers in Oyo State have been encouraged to take advantage of government-supported discounts on tractors while also paying close attention to seasonal weather forecasts to ensure a productive farming season.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, made this known during an agricultural stakeholders’ meeting held at the Local Government Training Centre, Secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the commissioner, the state government is making mechanised farming easier by providing tractors to farmers at subsidised rates, allowing them to access modern equipment at discounted prices.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at helping farmers prepare their lands faster and more efficiently, which will ultimately improve productivity and food security in the state.
The commissioner however warned that some parts of Oyo State may experience varying dry spell conditions during the 2026 farming season, therefore urged farmers to follow weather advisories and guidance from agricultural extension officers to reduce risks associated with climate change.
