INEC Debunks Public Notice Asking Government Officials Seeking Election to Resign Before March 26

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a graphic circulating online which claims that the Commission has set March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking elective positions to resign.

In a public notice issued by the Commission, INEC stated that the information did not originate from the Commission and described the circulating graphic as fake and misleading.

The electoral body urged members of the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the message entirely, stressing that it has not made any announcement setting such a deadline.

INEC also clarified that all official information and announcements from the Commission are communicated only through its verified platforms. These include:

  • The official website: inecnigeria.org
  • INEC’s verified social media accounts
  • Official press releases issued by the Commission

The Commission encouraged citizens to verify election-related information through these official channels before sharing it, warning that the spread of unverified content can mislead the public.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely, and transparent information to Nigerians regarding electoral matters.
