‎Oyo INEC Holds Ramadan Lecture, Urges Commitment to Justice Ahead of 2027 Elections


‎The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State on Thursday hosted its 2026 Ramadan Lecture in Ibadan, with a strong call for justice, fairness, and integrity in the conduct of future elections.

‎The event, held at the INEC Collation Centre in Ibadan, was attended by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State, Prof. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, alongside members of the commission’s management team and staff.

‎The lecture was themed “Justice in Islam: Building a Fair Society and the Roles of Muslims in Nigeria Politics.”

‎In his welcome address, Prof. Tella urged Muslim faithful and INEC staff to remain committed to justice, discipline, unity, and excellence, stressing the importance of the fear of God in the discharge of their duties.

‎He noted that such values would be crucial as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections in the state.

‎The chairman of the occasion and former Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Abdul Rahmon Oloyede, also charged electoral officials to uphold credibility in the nation’s electoral process. According to him, justice in elections must begin with the umpire, urging INEC officials to ensure transparency and fairness in all electoral activities.

‎Delivering the keynote lecture, the Executive Secretary of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Prof. Wole Abbas, described justice as both a spiritual and social responsibility capable of shaping individuals and nations.

‎Prof. Abbas explained that justice can be categorized into three forms distributive, procedural, and moral justice adding that the principle remains a cornerstone of Islam. He advised Muslim leaders and public officials to avoid all forms of personal favoritism in their daily responsibilities.

‎Goodwill messages were delivered by the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state, Comrade Akinade; the representative of the Commissioner of Police and Chief Imam of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Sanusi Muritala; and the Administrative Secretary of INEC Oyo State, Mrs. Rosemary Alaba Adeniyi.

‎The speakers collectively encouraged Muslim faithful to uphold Islamic teachings and moral values in order to foster a just and fair society.

‎Other highlights of the event included the turbaning of Alfa Bolaji Fujah as the “Agbesinga of INEC Oyo State” and the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Alfa Umar Tirimidth.

‎The lecture formed part of INEC Oyo State’s annual Ramadan activities aimed at promoting ethical values and unity among staff and the wider community.
