Tensions Escalate: UK, France Send Warship & Anti-Drone Units to Cyprus as Iran Conflict Widens

UK and France Bolster Eastern Mediterranean Defences After Alleged Iranian Drone Attack on British Base in Cyprus

The United Kingdom and France are set to reinforce security in the Eastern Mediterranean following an alleged Iranian drone attack on a British military base in Cyprus.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that the UK will dispatch helicopters equipped with advanced counter-drone systems to Cyprus after holding talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.

The move is aimed at strengthening air defence capabilities and safeguarding British personnel and assets stationed on the island.

In addition to aerial support, Starmer announced that the Royal Navy will deploy HMS Dragon to the region. HMS Dragon is one of the navy’s six Type 45 air defence destroyers, designed to track and intercept aerial threats, including drones and missiles.

The deployments underscore growing security concerns in the region and signal a coordinated effort by European allies to bolster defensive measures amid escalating tensions.
