President Tinubu Meets Governors, Announces Readiness for State Police
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed his call for the establishment of state police, declaring it a critical step toward addressing insecurity and strengthening governance across Nigeria.
Speaking after hosting State Governors in Abuja, the President emphasized that security remains the foundation upon which prosperity must be built.
While commending governors for their outreach efforts during the holy period, he challenged them to intensify their work at the grassroots.
According to him, leadership must reach forgotten young people, support hardworking women carrying family responsibilities, and restore hope in communities where it is fading.
Central to his address was the firm declaration that development, compassion, and opportunity must not be shaped by religion, tribe, or status.
He stressed that national growth can only be achieved when inclusivity guides governance and when citizens feel equally protected and empowered.
The President argued that security underpins every aspect of economic and social progress. Without it, he said, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep peacefully.
This reality, he explained, makes comprehensive security reform not only necessary but urgent.
As part of that reform, he announced plans to establish state police to curb insecurity. Framing the proposal as a matter of practicality rather than politics, he said empowering states with appropriate policing tools would strengthen the national framework while enabling quicker, locally informed responses to threats.
Reaffirming his administration’s resolve, the President declared that promises made to citizens would not be postponed.
He called for unity and bold reforms to fix what is not working, expressing confidence that with collaborative effort, the country will become safer and stronger in the years ahead.
