Why Oyo Zone, Olaoluwa OPA Should Be Governor In 2027 – ONDT
OyoLawa New Dawn Team (ONDT), has emphasised the need for Oyo Federal Constituency to produce the next governor of Oyo State.
The group made the call in press statement issued in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, while reacting to a letter written by some party leaders in Afijio local government, submitted to party Zonal office, and also copied the party secretariat in Oke Ado, Ibadan.
Dr Akin Ojo , the Coordinator of ONDT, said by the time Governor Seyi Makinde, an Ibadan man, completes his tenure in May 29, 2027, Oyo zone which has been the most disadvantaged among all the zones should be the next as the zone is yet to do since the creation of the new Oyo state.
It stated that while he appreciated the step took by the leaders in the council area to registered their displeasure of marginalization, it becomes imperative for the group who is championing support for an Oyo born Chartered Accountant now politician, Olaoluwa Peter Abidemi popularly called OPA to correctly addressed the people of the state so as not to be confused.
He said the group has been receiving disturbing calls on whether Olaoluwa is still in the governorship race or had quit, the group said OPA is seriously in the race and is embarking on massive mobilisation of his supporters across the state for them to also participate in the coming Congress of the party.

The statement recalled that Olaoluwa during the E-registration of APC membership recently went round some registration point in Afijio local government observe the progress of the exercise where he also encouraged the party registration officers with token for their good job done.
The group said called for the building of consensus towards the governorship primary by ensuring that an aspirant from Oyo zone is picked and supported by leaders and stakeholders in the party.
“Oyo zone had in times past supported other candidates from other zones and that no zone had singularly delivered a governor without at least the support of one other zone.
The group appealed to the people of other zones across oyo zones to reciprocate the gesture by giving their support to a candidate from the Oyo zone come.2027.
The group in the release unveiled the breakdown of past governors of Oyo State (civilian), which it categorized by geopolitical zones within the state:
1. Ibadan Zone (Ibadan North, South-East, South-West, North-East, North-West)
Chief Bola Ige (1979–1983) – (esa oke) but Ibadan till death
Dr. Omololu Olunloyo (1983, 3 months) – Ibadan
Dr. Lam Adeshina (1999 – 2003) -Ibadan
Sen. Rashidi Ladoja (2003–2007) – Ibadan
Sen. Abiola Ajimobi (2011–2019) – Ibadan
Engr. Seyi makinde (2019- till date) -Ibadan
Even chief kolapo ishola – Ibadan
2. Ogbomoso Zone
Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala (2006, acting; 2007–2011) – Ogbomoso
3. Oyo Zone
No civilian governor from this zone yet
(Some military administrators may have been posted from other parts of Nigeria, but not as indigenous Oyo zone civilians.)
4. Oke-Ogun Zone

5. Ibarapa Zone
No civilian governor yet
It added that zoning to Ibadan may not be a strong case for moral justice if based on underrepresentation.
It stated that even though Oke Ogun has not produced a substantive governor, he has twice produced an acting governor and four deputy governors.
It added: “Now is our own time. We call on men and women of goodwill with a sense of fairness, equity, and justice to allow the Oyo zone to produce the next governor of Oyo State. We count on your statement to rise on behalf of us, the oppressed people of Oyo zone this time. For many years, we were denied. Please join hands to liberate us from the chains of oppression and marginalization.”
