Oyo Police Confirm Abduction of 12-Year-Old School Girl in Ibadan, Appeal for Credible Information
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a 12-year-old female student in Ibadan, the state capital.
The Police described the incident as a suspected case of kidnapping.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed on Thursday that the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, in the Challenge area of the state capital.
He stated that preliminary findings by the police indicated that the victim, a student of a private secondary school in the area, was allegedly abducted at about 7:20 a.m. by unknown armed men.
The police added that eyewitnesses were identified and questioned, with their accounts said to be providing useful leads to investigators.
The Police said the victim’s parents have been contacted and are working closely with the Command as efforts intensify to secure the safe rescue of the child.
Commissioner of Police in the state is said to have ordered a comprehensive and intelligence-driven investigation into the incident.
While urging residents to remain calm, the Police called on members of the public to provide any useful information that could aid the investigation, assuring that such information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
