Woli Agba Reveals Inspiration Behind “Mowo Ibiti Moti Bere” Song, How He was Named After His Father’s Cap
Popular Nigerian gospel comedian, actor, singer, pastor and content creator, Woli Agba, has revealed the inspiration behind his song “Mowo Ibiti Moti Bere,” and how he was named after his late father’s cap.
He made this revelation on Agbaletu, a programme hosted by veteran broadcast journalist, music collector, and arts researcher Dele Adeyanju.
Woli Agba, who is widely known for his indigenous Yoruba-themed Christian comedy, is the founder of the Instagram Parish Ministry (IPM).
He rose to prominence through his Christian dance-drama group, Alfa Sule, before successfully transitioning into one of Nigeria’s leading online skit makers.
According to him, one of his late father’s old friends and drama colleagues who worked closely with his father while he was alive later informed the family that he still had one of his father’s stage costumes, a cap.
When the cap was eventually handed over to the family, they discovered that it had the name “Woli Agba” embroidered on it.
He explained that, over time, events unfolded naturally, and he eventually began to perform the role of Woli Agba, and adopted the name from the cap.
Woli Agba also revealed that God has helped him compose several songs, one of which includes the popular lyrics:
“Mowo Ibiti Moti Bere, Mowo Ibiti Mobade oooo, Gbogbo Ogo Loye oooo, Baba.”
During the interview, he also used the opportunity to address the past disagreement between himself and his brother, Alfa Sule, explaining how the misunderstanding was later amicably resolved.
As of the time of filing this report, Woli Agba is now a pastor and the General Overseer of a fast-rising Pentecostal church in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
