‎Oyo Assembly, Public Await Ethics and Privileges Committee Disciplinary Recommendation Against Honorable Shittu

‎The Oyo State House of Assembly and members of the public are awaiting the recommendation of the Ethics and Privileges Committee on possible disciplinary action against Honorable Ibrahim Shittu, representing Saki West State Constituency.

‎The move follows the rejection of Shittu’s apology over a viral video in which he made allegations considered defamatory against the house Majority leader, honorable Sanjo Adedoyin.

‎Lawmakers had previously considered the report of the Ethics and Privileges Committee, which found that Shittu’s claims lacked credible evidence and could undermine the integrity of the House.

‎On the matter, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Honorable Adebo Ogundoyin, explained that Shittu had previously been given an opportunity to make amends but did not utilize it.

‎The Speaker noted that the committee’s investigation found the allegations invalid, and Shittu therefore stands to face sanctions as recommended by the committee.

‎Ogundoyin emphasized that maintaining discipline and upholding ethical standards is crucial to protecting the credibility of the Assembly, and was one of the reasons the lawmaker’s apology was rejected.

‎Members of civil society and the public have called for transparent and firm action, stressing that the outcome of the disciplinary process will be a test of the Assembly’s commitment to accountability, ethical governance, and preservation of public trust in the legislature.
