‎Oyo Government Allocates 7.5% of Local Government Budget to Primary Health Care, Expands Facilities Across State



‎Oyo State Government has allocated 7.5 percent of local government statutory budget to primary health care, to significantly strengthened the pulse of the health system across the state.

‎The Executive Secretary, Oyo State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Muideen Babatunde Olatunji, disclosed this during a chat with newsmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

‎Dr. Olatunji explained that the initiative aligns with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision to ensure equitable access to health care for all residents of Oyo State, particularly those in underserved rural areas.

‎He then noted that the the health care contributory investment is complemented by state and federal government.

‎The Execute Secretary disclosed that the state government has so far embarked on the construction, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of about 300 primary health care centers out of the 351 wards in the state, noting the remaining  facilities are already at different stages of completion and will soon be delivered to the people.

‎In addition to infrastructural expansion, Olatunji announced that the government has prioritized the recruitment of health workers across all cadres.

‎He revealed that doctors, nurses, midwives, and other frontline workers are being employed to staff the newly revitalized health centers, ensuring that communities do not only get buildings but also the required professionals to provide care.

‎Dr. Olatunji noted that Residents can now access consultations, maternal care, child immunization, and treatment of common illnesses directly within their localities without unnecessary referrals to Ibadan or other major towns.
