They Once Brought Makinde To Me To Lobby For PDP Structure In Oyo State, He Has No Gut To Run For President__ Nyesom Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has expressed shock over what he described as an unusual and disrespectful remark by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, amid the ongoing crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike made the comments during a media chat on Monday, where he continued his criticism of Makinde’s role in the party’s internal disputes.
Wike said he was taken aback that Makinde openly referred to him by his name, describing it as the first time he had ever heard the Oyo governor address him in such a manner.
According to the FCT minister, the development reflected Makinde’s growing frustration within the PDP. He described the situation as unfortunate, noting that political pressure often exposes character and temperament.
Speaking further, Wike linked Makinde’s alleged frustration to unresolved ambitions and power struggles within the party. He maintained that the crisis in the PDP did not emerge by accident but was driven by individual interests, insisting that Makinde’s actions over time had contributed significantly to the party’s instability.
In a revelation that sheds light on the long-standing political history between both men, Wike disclosed that Makinde was once brought before him in an attempt to hand over control of the PDP structure in Oyo State. He said the move was proposed by party stakeholders who believed Makinde should take charge of the party’s affairs in the state.
However, Wike said he rejected the proposal and instead handed the PDP structure to another individual, a decision he described as deliberate and based on party strategy at the time. He did not disclose the identity of the beneficiary but stressed that his decision was guided by what he believed would strengthen the party in Oyo State.
Wike reiterated his stance that politics operates on experience, loyalty, and respect for party structures, not emotional reactions or personal ambition.
